Kaleb and Athena are two local London eight-year-old black belts from Family Karate. They have both recently qualified (at the nationals in Ottawa) to join Team Canada at the World Karate Championships in Dublin, Ireland October 26 to November 3.

Athena will be competing for her second time at the worlds in point sparring. She finished third place in 2017. Athena also recently received the highest marks in her black belt testing, including all of the adults, earning her an honours belt – at just eight years old.

Kaleb, also eight years old, received his black belt in December 2017, and this will be his first experience on the world stage. Kaleb will be competing in two events. The first will be his creative weapon, using his bow staff, and the second event will be continuous sparring.

The World Karate Championships are the equivalent to the Olympics for the sport of karate. At just eight years old, Kaleb and Athena are certainly going to be two kids from London that you will want to keep your eyes on over the coming years.

We wish them luck on their journey this fall!
