At Olympic Karate, our core philosophy is “learn to be your best,” which helps our students know that everyone’s personal best is different: someone might strive for 10 push-ups, while another might strive for 100. What you put in is what you get out, and by giving your best you will, in turn, receive the best for yourself.
As a martial artist, you are taught to use your skills only in defense, and to avoid confrontation at all costs. Showboating one’s skills and boasting about abilities are not something fundamental to martial arts; in fact, that opposes the basic philosophies taught at the beginner level. This can make martial arts a solemn art, an art that places emphasis on personal victories rather than glory and fame.
To help our students set goals and test the limits of their own personal bests, we have a bi-annual Tournament of Champions. On Dec 5, 2015, our dojo welcomed most of our students for a day of competition and fun. Students competed in three main events: kata presentation, fitness evaluation, and point-based sparring. We had an amazing turnout and all of our competitors had fun. We will be hosting another tournament in the late spring/early summer. Contact us for additional info.
