The Family Karate Competition Team tryouts, held in late January and early February, saw a tremendous turnout. The team has grown to over 40 members, almost doubling in size from the year before! Last year’s members set the tone and led by example for the newcomers, and they will look to maintain these leadership roles this year.
The coaches are excited about the energy and enthusiasm the new students will bring. As always, the team will compete at tournaments to test their skills, but members and families of FKCT are also known for their generosity. They will look to give back to the community through charitable work and donations once again to practice the Family Karate motto of ‘Life Skills Through Karate.’
In the coming weeks, team members will be asked to set ‘SMART’ goals for themselves this year. ‘SMART’ stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely/Time Specific. The coaches believe that if the goals you set meet each of the criteria in the SMART acronym, then you stand a much greater chance of reaching them.
An important anniversary will be marked in 2018 when Family Karate will see students compete and strive for success for the 20th year. Much of this success is due to the dedication of the coaches, but it must also be mentioned that this type of longevity doesn’t happen with the support of parents and family members, and certainly, not least of all, the hard work and commitment of our students. Congratulations, Family Karate and FKCT!
