The Family Karate Competition Team has continued to impress me with their enthusiasm and effort in achieving their goals and aspiring to hone their skills. As a coach, I see tremendous value in the intrinsic motivation that these students display. They recognize the necessity of sacrifice – the voluntary willingness to work hard in order to actualize their potential.
Their sweat (and smiles) during practice are the physical manifestations of that sacrifice – followed by the improvements in speed, strength, and skill that I see as the year progresses.
All their hard work has led to two team members, Caleb and Athena, earning the honour to compete in the WKC National Championships in Ottawa this year. Both were in pursuit of representing Canada on the international stage in Ireland, and both have qualified in their sparring divisions. I am confident that they will continue to train with intensity and passion and represent both Canada and Family Karate with respect and dignity.
One of the highlights for the Family Karate team this summer is participating in the London Brain Tumor Walk in Victoria Park (held June 10. These events give the team an opportunity to engage with the community, strengthen their team cohesion, and build confidence in their individual skills. We strive to create positive community leaders at Family Karate, and this year’s competition team is excelling in their community involvement. Kudos, team!
