On August 11, 2019, Acura West was delighted to be the main sponsor of the inaugural Bob Martin ‘Drive, Chip & Putt’ competition at Bob Martin’s driving range at Wonderland and Wharncliffe.
The event is the brainchild of PGA professional and certified golf coach, Derek Highley, coupled with the support of Bob Martin, a well-known fixture on the London golf scene and proud supporter of many children’s charities.
Bob’s facility was an ideal venue for the 30 boys and girls that signed up for the event, along with their parents, on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The tournament was modelled after the same competition showcased at the Masters in Augusta every April, and it was a resounding success, with prizes given out in all age categories.
The competition was fierce and the talent abundant, with some hard-fought battles waged to determine the winners. The kids had a great time, and the parents were treated to an exceptional day of golf camaraderie – both with their kids and the other parents at hand!
With the word out now, and the first competition under their belts, Derek and Bob are excited to start planning next year’s event, which will surely look to build on this year’s great success.
