Power Cheer Gym is the official training site for the largest collection of university and college-aged cheerleaders in Canada (120+ athletes which are all top end competitors on the National circuit). In December at the Collegiate Nationals in Toronto, the Western Mustangs brought home their 29th National title (they have finished second only once in the past 30 years).

The Black Falcons, comprised entirely of Fanshawe College students, placed second in the Community colleges division and the Western All-Girl team ranked third in the nation in their division. The newest collegiate level team from PCG, the ‘Crazy Fish’, narrowly missed first place in the Open Division in just their first season at Nationals. Next up on the schedule, the teams head to Washington DC for the Battle at the Capitol in February.

Much of the energy and athletic leadership at Power Cheer Gym comes from the coaches and instructors who also cheer on these collegiate teams. They provide a fantastic learning and training environment for the hundreds of youth and high school-aged club member cheerleaders on the Viper teams from age 5 (Mini division) up to 18 years of age (Senior). These student-athlete coaches and mentors are not only great at teaching skills, but they also become tutors and ‘big sisters/brothers’ to many of the younger athletes.

Gym owner and legendary Western coach ‘Trace’ Tracey also coaches the National Team Canada Co-ed program at the Cheerleading World Championships. PCG holds an impressive array of coaches and leaders who are always recruiting and building champions.

The Viper teams started their competition season in November in Mississauga, and they are bringing all eight teams plus the new Special Needs ‘S-10’ Vipers squad to the 44-team Christmas Competition hosted at Mother Teresa High School in mid-December.

It is never too late to get involved with a team at the Power Cheer Gym. If you have a potential cheer-athlete/gymnast that is interested in joining up at the January half-way point, the friendly and fun staff and coaches are always available to introduce new athletes to competitive cheer!
