The competition season is in full swing, and the teams from the Power Cheer Gym have kicked off 2015 with excellent results at events in Washington, Ohio and Toronto. The Western Mustangs co-ed team took top spot in DC in the Battle at the Capitol Elite Collegiate Division, while the Fanshawe Black Falcons finished third behind Virginia Tech University. In the All-Girl Division, Western narrowly missed capturing a repeat title, settling for second this year.
At the Xtreme Cheer Eastern Nationals in Ohio, PCG’s Junior Level 3 squad blew away the competition, winning both a divisional title as well as the L3 ‘Grand Championship’. Meanwhile, the Viper Senior Co-ed L4 team and the Senior L3 team placed second and third in their respective categories.
The Power Cheer Gym fields teams in eight different age and ability divisions, ranging from Mini (ages 5-to-7) all the way up through Youth (7-to-11), Junior (11-to-14), and Senior (14-to-18). There is even an awesome Special Needs team too. All of the teams will be on the road in February and March with competitions in Brampton and Mississauga, and the advanced ‘travel teams’ will also be in Myrtle Beach later in the month.
Athletes wishing to get involved in cheerleading are welcome to sign up for introductory classes held during the March Break week. The low cost ($10) one-hour sessions feature tumbling, stunting and the always popular ‘Stunt with the Mustangs’ class. See www.PowerCheerGym.com for specific details.
