A few local golfers have had a great start to the season as part of the nationally recognized London Junior Golf Development Centre (LJGDC). Two Team London members, Carson DeThomasis and Cameron Kellett, have qualified to battle at the highest level provincially and compete in national junior events.
Joined by their PGA pro coach, Brian Gallant, the duo recently travelled to Neepawa, Manitoba to compete in the CN Future Links Prairie Championship, a national junior event. Carson fired an opening round of 74, 3 shots off the lead, but unfortunately signed for an incorrect score leading to the end of his event. Cameron started 83, 80, and finished off strong with his best ever competitive round of 2 under par, 70.
The duo has also qualified to battle provincial and national ranked juniors this summer. In July, Carson will compete against national juniors at the CN Future Links Atlantic Championship in Prince Edward Island and Golf Ontario’s Junior Boys Provincial Championship. In August, Cameron will compete in the Ontario Summer Games, the provincial Juvenile Championship.
Carson and Cam are joined by Jack Dawson, Colin Warren, Joshua Adams and Julia Davis in the Developing Competitor program of the LJGDC, which features a team of golfers training together and pushing the development of each junior. Team London juniors will also compete on the local Tyson Tour, as well as regional events on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour.
The quality of programming and commitment to junior golf at the LJGDC includes juniors at various stages in the Long-Term Development Pathway. This year, juniors can participate in the following programs:
- Active Start (under 6)
- Learn to Golf Junior League (ages 6 to 14)
- Summer PGA Golf Camps (ages 7 to 14)
- Team London New Competitor, Development and Advanced Teams (ages 10 to 22)
