Cheerleading is not just for teens. The world of competitive cheerleading has opened up to all ages, and at CheerStrike we have lots of little Royals. Our Tiny Knights in Armour team is comprised of 14 super talented kids aged six, five and four. They are a level one team, which means they compete using skills like cartwheels, back walkovers, front walkovers and stunts that go up to shoulder height. This team practices twice a week for a total of two hours.

Our Mini Majesty team is made up of 13 super talented kids aged eight and seven. They are the only level two mini team in the city. At level two they compete using skills like back handsprings and round off back handsprings and stunts that go up above their shoulder height. This team practices twice a week for a total of three hours. These athletes are young, but they’re capable of focus, hard work and learning complicated choreography.

Cheer has many benefits for children at this young age. Cheerleading develops their strength, coordination, stamina and their brain! Having to do complicated choreography while performing athletic skills stimulates their brains and encourages their brain and body to work together. They don’t only lift other athletes into the air and flip themselves backwards, but they do all this to counts while moving in transitions and performing for a crowd. The results we see from young children having to combine all these skills is an improvement in focus, at cheer and school, and a development of confidence and self-esteem in themselves.
