Summer at the Power Cheer Gym is dedicated to developing new talent at all age levels. The Spring Tryouts gather the majority of next year’s team members, but for those who missed them, or for athletes interested in getting started in competitive Power Cheerleading, it is never too late to start! Younger novices can take the Cheer 101 summer program (Tuesday and Thursday evenings), which is divided into Mini (4-7 yr olds), Youth (8-11) and Junior (12-14). This six-week program is designed as a cheerleading sampler and touches on all of the major skill areas.
Senior aged athletes (14-18) are encouraged to drop in to a Friday or Saturday ‘Open Gym’ or to simply come to any summer practice night to meet the coaches and check out the gym. PCG is proud to boast that last year the club had alumni Vipers cheering on 11 different Ontario university and college teams. High school cheer athletes are strongly encouraged to get involved with a Viper team as a solid stepping stone to earning a place on a collegiate team after they graduate. Call to set up a visit time: 519-667-0565.
The powerhouse teams from Western and Fanshawe are into their respective summer training schedules and the 2015 class of recruits is deep in talent. The 29-time National Champion Coed Mustangs signed eight freshmen women, all fresh off World Championship squads to join the 23 male members of the team and other veteran women. Mustang games will be explosive on the sidelines this fall. The Mustang All-Girl squad is looking exceptionally talented as well, and though not as publicly visible as the coed team, they are expected to be challenging for a National Championship title in 2015.
New this summer at PCG: Cheerleading themed birthday parties. Kids get a two-hour in-gym party that includes skill instruction, gym equipment, bigtime fun, and of course birthday cake! More information is on the web site.
It is never too late to get involved with a team at the Power Cheer Gym, and the fully credentialed, friendly and fun staff and coaches are always available to introduce new athletes to competitive cheer. Parents will love our comfortable elevated parents’ lounge and reading room overlooking the newly renovated gym area.
