Since January 2013, Acura has been a proud sponsor of Olympic Gold Medalists and World Ice Dance Champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. The highly-decorated skaters have been provided vehicles, while the pair has made public appearances, and done radio commercials and print advertising for Acura. That relationship is set to continue for the foreseeable future, and so is the partnership between Virtue and Moir. The pair announced in February that they are officially out of retirement and now in preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.
The last time most of Canada saw the talented duo in action was when they hit the podium as silver medalists at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. After a two-year break from competitive skating, the pair is back. And they’re training hard to return as gold medal contenders in the ice dance in 2018.
“In returning to competition, our motivation stems solely from our love for the sport and our desire to create art,” said Virtue and Moir in a release on Skate Canada’s website. “We are ready for the challenge, and ready to embrace life as athletes again!”
The six-time Canadian champions said they’ve found renewed passion for skating while working with Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon.
“We have been working tirelessly on new techniques, and a different approach to ice dance – both mechanically and philosophically,” the pair said.
Acura is thrilled that Virtue and Moir are back on the ice, as are all Canadian figure skating fans and supporters. We wish Tessa and Scott the best of luck as they go for gold in 2018!
