Successful athletic performance means being the player who is a constant threat, well rounded, unpredictable, and one who nobody wants to play against. This type of player comes from a combination of speed, power, agility, technical skill, and strength.

In a sound, periodized training program, the first thing that needs to be developed is a strong, stable, efficient foundation — built by targeting strength, stability, and movement skills. With foundational strength exercises (squats, deadlifts, lunges, presses, pulls, raises), athletes will be working under slow tempos and time under tension, adapting the muscles to the load. Movement skills (open steps, drop steps, deceleration, acceleration) are taught in a controlled manner, at a slower pace. In the next phase of training, we focus on the next layer of athletic performance (agility, explosiveness, and power).

The foundational phase has taught the athlete to link their strength together with their speed and agility, to make quick and powerful directional changes and accelerate rapidly. If you want to BE fast, you have to TRAIN fast. The key is finding the right balance and training smarter, not harder. It’s important to devote some of an athlete’s training to bridge the gap between dry-land training and sport performance. When the season comes … you want to BE READY!

All summer, Twist Sport Conditioning Centre is offering dry-land training for both Football Conditioning and Hockey Development, with programs during the day and evening. Our small group Athlete Development classes are running six days a week, with morning and evening options.
