London’s second annual Walk & Talk for Mental Health is set for Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, and it is sure to be an important day in raising awareness of mental health issues and de-stigmatizing mental illness in the London community.
Once again, the day will consist of a short walk downtown, starting at Victoria Park (10am), followed by post-walk festivities (indoors!) with food, fun, a guest speaker, and a fundraising raffle.
‘Move for mental health’ is the slogan of the Defeat Depression campaign, a national mental health awareness, anti-stigma and fundraising campaign that encourages people to get moving and reap the benefits of exercise and physical activity.
Depression is a very common illness. It’s estimated that at least 1 in 5 Canadians will suffer from some form of mental illness in their lifetime. One way to help combat these illnesses is through physical activity, which has widely-known positive benefits for one’s mental health and wellbeing.
Interested in participating in London’s Walk & Talk for Mental Health? Register online (mdsc.akaraisin.com/London2016), sign up as a participant, and consider asking friends and family to sponsor you! Most importantly, come out for the day and help take a stand against stigma!
The proceeds from this year’s event are going to the London and District Distress Centre.
See you on Feb. 27!
