The AM Group of Companies is a leader when it comes to getting involved in the community. And they’re particularly big on two things: children’s health and sports.

It all started eight years ago, when the child of the company’s original owner, based in Owen Sound, experienced a life-threatening illness. They came to London for treatment, and they spent two weeks at the London Children’s Hospital. After extensive treatment, the owner’s child rebounded. The care they received at the hospital had a profound impact, and the family has been eternally grateful. Soon after, they set up a branch in London.

Andrew Mischuk, who is part-owner, operates the London location, and he’s been very active in the community since day one. The company continues to donate $1,000 every month to the Children’s Hospital, and they raise even more money from events. For instance, last year they got involved with the GOT GAME SPORTS Street Hockey Tournament in London, bringing in Toronto Maple Leafs legend Darryl Sittler to autograph mini sticks, with the proceeds (more than $3,000) going to the Children’s Health Foundation (the company then matched that amount).

“We feel a responsibility to be active in the community and help our neighbours,” says Mischuk, who also oversees the company’s sponsorship of golf tournaments that raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. “Supporting the London Children’s Health Foundation is obviously a cause very close to our hearts, and we’re always thrilled when we get the chance to help out such a great organization. The staff there do tremendous work.”

Over the years, the company has raised more than $100,000 for the cause. In the sports world, they’ve also been active sponsoring youth teams in the region.

Meanwhile, the company has been making waves from a business perspective – and has been earning accolades along the way. In 2017, the AM Group of Companies was named to the ‘Top 100 Places to Work in Canada’ list. They earned a Consumers Choice Award in 2018, and were also recognized as Integrity Award Finalists, a competition that included 500 entries. For three years running, they’ve been named a ‘Top Choice Award – Mark of Excellence’ recipient (2017-2019), and they were named a finalist this year for the London Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Award.

But the company always finds time to be active in the community. In fact, it’s a part of their core identity.

“It’s part of our DNA and who we are as a company,” says Mischuk. “The community supports us, and we want to make sure that we’re giving back. And our embrace that. We all love to be involved in the community and really make a difference in London.”
