South Huron Sabres
The South Huron Sabres are a Novice C girls hockey team in the WOGHL. Though the team has five second-year players, its eight first-year players make it a team that lacks experience. Being a young squad, one of the team’s goals is to grow and improve. Having recently participated in the Mitchell Tournament, and achieving good results, the team is showing a strong bond on and off the ice.
The coaching staff, comprised of Chad Dalrymple, Dave Farquhar, Steve Farquhar, Kim Hern, Paul Gorman, and on-ice practice helper, Megan Dalrymple, has been working on developing the girls’ puck control and their positioning on the ice. Along with practicing these basic skills, the coaches are encouraging the girls to take chances during games. The players are working very hard to enhance their skills, and the coaches are happy with the progress they’ve made so far, both individually and as a collective. The Sabres are looking forward to the season ahead, and they’re anticipating great success!
Tillsonburg Midget AE
The Tillsonburg Midget AE – Rona boys hockey team plays in the Southern Counties League. All of the players on the team have had experience playing with each other at different levels of the organization – for example, Rep, AE, or House League. At this point in their hockey careers, the coaches are focusing on helping the players improve their abilities to see the game as a whole and gain a better understanding of what they need to do when they don’t have the puck in their possession.
The main goal for the team is to have fun and simply play hockey for personal enjoyment. The coaches preach having fun, and there is plenty of laughing during the fun parts of the game with the boys, such as when the players trip going over the boards (which they often blame on their stick or the ice). Coaches Peter McDowell, Lee Jensen and Scott Wingrove, as well as team manager Alex Vercheren, on-ice helpers Scott and Wayne, and trainer Ron all enjoy helping the boys and making sure that they have a great experience as a team. With the season underway, the boys are working hard to achieve success and continue to improve, all while having fun!
