Puck-stopping project a hit

Goalies are getting top-notch training at Snipe Academy through The Goalie Project, a program led by pro coaches that focuses on reps, skill development and mentorship to help young goalies reach the next level.

It’s a program that launched at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic – and it was a hit. Now, it’s a must for netminders looking to improve their skills and take their game to the next level.

The Goalie Project, a pro goalie training program offered by Snipe Academy, leverages the Academy’s skill ice with its goalie ice to save parents money and stretch their hockey training dollar. Oh, and it features pro coaches passing on their knowledge to help the development of young goalies and propel them to the next level in their hockey careers.

Pro goalie training costs only $80 for private lessons on the synthetic ice at Snipe Academy headquarters, and $80 for on-ice training groups of four which include paid shooters and a pro coach. For example …

Each goalie session has two nets going, a maximum of four goalies, a pro goalie coach and two paid shooters helping to give each goalie plenty of reps while challenging them as they improve their skills. The program even includes power skating, goalie-specific movement sessions and goalie battle drills.

And it’s led by coaches who run skills training with a keen attention to detail for both on-ice drills and off-ice mentoring.

Eric Rogers, who brings 11 years of coaching experience to his training at Snipe Academy, has worked with goalies from the OUA to the OHL, AHL and NHL levels. Rogers himself was mentored by NHL goalie coaches, and his style features fast-paced drills, edge work, over slides and positioning.

Brendan O’Neill has seven years of professional goalie coaching experience, and he’s worked with a wide array of netminders, from the beginner levels to the semi-pro ranks. O’Neill was a goaltender himself for three seasons in the OHL and another five seasons in the OUA.
