Lawn Summer Nights (LSN) is a unique event for young professionals that benefits Cystic Fibrosis Canada. The event centres around a social summertime lawn bowling event, but its reach is much broader. The teams that take part in the 4-week event compete on the lawns, as well as through the donations that they raise. This year, London surpassed their fundraising goal and raised $35,500 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada — a 42% increase over the previous year.
LSN supports those living with cystic fibrosis (CF) – a multi-system genetic disease – by raising funds and awareness. As the LSN teams – many of them wittily named and costumed to match – sip cocktails, enjoy a light supper, and listen to speakers whose lives have been affected by CF, they compete both on the lawns and in the community by seeking online pledges and holding fundraising events.
“Most people think of lawn bowling as an old-person’s activity,” says London organizing committee ‘skip’ Jonathan Abate. “But it’s a lot of fun –and harder than it looks!”
Members of the Thistle Lawn Bowling Club volunteer to explain the mysteries of jacks and kitties and to offer participants tips on their lawn bowling technique.
“LSN is a classy event,” Abate says. “A great chance to channel your inner Gatsby, have fun with friends, and raise money for a truly worthy cause.”
