Dance Extreme has been privileged to have Miss Rebecca Zizek working with its dancers since 2009. Rebecca began teaching on Faculty at Dance Extreme when she came to London to attend Western University. Since then, she has taught both recreational and competitive classes. As a competitive choreographer, Miss Rebecca’s intricate and creative works have earned many prestigious awards. When she teaches her students, she inspires and works to achieve greatness in each piece of choreography.
Outside of Dance Extreme, Rebecca is also an accredited choreographer. Most recently, a piece she choreographed was accepted to the Young Choreographer’s Festival in New York City. The piece is entitled, “Chasers of the Light.”
Zizek describes the theme of the piece as “our constant pursuit of happiness,” or “chasing the light.” It is meant to explore the journey that this never-ending process takes us on — the forces that push and pull us towards the light, and how we find our way through life’s twists and turns. Rebecca believes that light and happiness are created within ourselves, and that happiness is something that we must fight and strive for.
“There is a drive that takes us from one moment to the next, she says. “And if we are relentless enough, it will take us there and open our eyes to the light.
“Despite fears, uncertainties and downfalls, our inevitable and undying spark drives us to release our inhibitions and jump headfirst into the unknown — because truly, what other choice do we have? All of this in an endless pursuit of chasing the light.”
The Mission of the Young Choreographer’s Festival is to present the work of the most up-and-coming young choreographers in all genres of dance. Their unique event will garner them the experience and resources needed to aid in the progression of their careers. At Dance Extreme, we are all extremely proud of Miss Rebecca’s accomplishments!
