Perhaps it’s not surprising that curling is the main sport supported by Roy Inch & Sons Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing. After all, the company’s general manager, Peter Inch, has quite the extensive background in curling, including being a one-time rising talent as a teenager, and then sporting an impressive resume of organizing tournaments, including the Tim Hortons Brier in 2011.
As a company, Roy Inch & Sons currently sponsors the London Curling Club, the St. Thomas Curling Club, and the Forest Curling Club. The company also sponsors and hosts the annual Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts Classic. Events sponsored in the past include the 2002 Canadian Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championship, the 2003 TSN Women’s Skins Game, the 2006 Scott Tournament of Hearts, and the 2011 Tim Horton’s Brier. And in 2015, Roy Inch & Sons will be sponsoring the school program Rocks and Rings for the 2015 Tankard Clash on the Thames.
But it’s not all curling with Roy Inch & Sons. The company also supports and has been involved in coaching hockey teams at many levels, including the London Devilettes, the Blue Water Hawk, the Southeast Bruins, Laurier High School, BAD Girls (Belmont, Aylmer, Dorchester), and the St. Thomas Panthers. Meanwhile, Peter Inch has coached the Southend United girls soccer club for a number of years, from house league all the way to winning the Challenge Cup (all with the same core group of girls).
“I believe there is much to learn from being active in the sports world,” said Inch, who has worked full-time at Roy Inch & Sons for the past 34 years and has seen the company win numerous industry awards. “I truly believe in team dynamics, both in the sports world and, just as important, in operating a successful business.”
It’s this aspect, in addition to the positive benefits from marketing and supporting the community, that Inch believes is most valuable to the company.
“It’s only possible to win when you get the other members of your team to ‘buy in’ to your game strategy, and then practice it. The same goes in business. We need our entire staff to ‘buy in’ to the game strategy and then put it into practice. Then we will have success.”
