The racing season at Delaware Speedway is getting into gear. This season brings a focus on local content with a variety of series to entertain those who make the short drive out to the racetrack. Racing action will include entry level Bone Stock Chaos Cars and an Enduro series, as well as V8 Stock Muscle Cars, Trucks, Super Stocks and Delaware’s fastest drivers in the top level Late Model Series.
The season officially begins on May 31 and runs weekly events through to the end of September. For the full schedule, go to www.delawarespeedway.com. Coupled with the regular events, there will be several special events this year, including modified vintages on July 25, ISMA Super Modified on August 15 and a Demolition Derby on September 28.
“There is plenty of local talent competing at the track which provides extra incentive to get out and cheer on the drivers,” says track owner Justin Demelo.
Open wheel driver Jay Doer from London has been a model of consistency over an 18-year racing career that has been highlighted by championship wins in 2010 and 2011.
Fans coming to the track for the first time should have no trouble picking a favorite: odds are good that there is a driver in competition from your hometown!
Young drivers are also set to make an impact this year. Students participating in Delaware Speedway’s 2014 High School Challenge are set to make history. With 13 area high schools from London, St. Thomas, Parkhill, Forest, Ingersoll, Woodstock, and Chatham registered to participate, the stage has been set for this year’s program to become the largest of its kind in Canada.
Delaware Speedway is a half-mile paved oval stock-car track, located just west of London, Ontario. Since 1952, Delaware Speedway has been home to some of the finest stock car racing in Canada. Its unique natural amphitheatre-like setting allows a family or group of friends to enjoy an exciting, comfortable and affordable evening or afternoon of entertainment.
