This fall, the Sports Link Networking Luncheon entered its third season of providing networking opportunities for the London sports community. Launched in the fall of 2011, this event starts in September and runs every two months (usually the third Tuesday of the month), except for in the summer.

The Sports Link is a sub-committee of the London Sports Council and consists of a committee of more than 10 individuals who are focused on developing the program and getting the word out to local sports organizations.

Networking has always been a key focus. To that end, a variety of strategies are employed, including small group-focused discussions, speed networking, snowball networking and more. The goal is that participants leave with a number of new contacts.

Adding themes that resonate with the local sports community has been a focus this season, which has included involving expert speakers and group discussions to ensure that everyone leaves with new ideas to share with their sports organizations.

“We had a good first couple of seasons, and this year we have added some new members to the committee who have provided a lot of ideas on resources to help take our initiative to the next level,” said Greg Matthison, the chair of the Sports Link Committee. “Our goal is to continue to connect with the local sports community, and we are striving to have 100 participants for each event including local sports influencers.”

The next event is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2013 at the BMO Centre located at 295 Rectory St. The theme of the event is ‘Coaching,’ and it will cover managing parents and player development. The presenter will be Michele O’Keefe, who is the Executive Director of Canada Basketball. In order to be included on the guest list, you must RSVP by Nov. 15.  The evening will cost $10 (which includes a wonderful meal).

Events beyond November will include ‘Marketing’ on January 21, ‘Volunteer Management’ on March 18 and ‘Fundraising’ on May 27.
