In 1971, a group of west coast mountaineers made a decision to do business differently. In doing so, they turned an unconventional retail model into a thriving business. Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) inspires and enables everyone to lead active outdoor lifestyles. They do that by selling outdoor gear, clothing, and services. These areas include camping, cycling, watersports, running, winter sports, climbing and everyday outdoor commuting. MEC promises to match their members with gear that suits their needs. But they also offer more than just products — they offer passion, expertise, experience, and enthusiasm.
MEC is a retail co-operative here in London but they offer something very unique to the community. Not only do they provide the gear for outdoor activities, but the opportunity to participate! They host a series of five running races throughout the City of London in both trail and road options. These races are priced at only $15 for a fully supported, chip-timed race! The races are a great opportunity to get out there and explore the different parks around London. If you are not a runner but a cyclist, there is an event for you too! Each summer, MEC London hosts a Century Ride. This year it will begin and end at a local brewery with great post-ride comradery. This 60K or 160K course is fully supported and only $35!
MEC really does inspire and enable everyone to lead active outdoor lifestyles!
