The concept of annual games for seniors in Ontario began in 1982 when a program was developed through the impetus of the Older Adults Centres Association of Ontario to increase leisure options for active seniors. The Ministry of Tourism and Recreation funded a provincial coordinator, the province was divided into 40 Districts based on geography and population, and very soon, largely through efforts by volunteers in the various communities, thousands of seniors were competing locally in a wide variety of activities.
London Senior 55+ Games (LSG), District 30, is comprised of a group of volunteers who work hard to promote an active lifestyle for seniors through participation in a wide range of activities in the city of London. We meet once a month throughout the year and plan games that anyone 55 years or older can participate in.
Our summer games, which run in May and June, consist of the following activities: bid euchre, bocce ball, carpet bowling, contract bridge, cribbage, darts, euchre, floor shuffleboard, golf (18 holes), horseshoes, lawn bowling, slo-pitch, swimming, tennis, and walking, as well as cycling, golf (9 holes), and mini golf billiards.
Our winter games, which run in November and December, consist of the following activities: alpine skiing, badminton, 10 pin bowling, curling, duplicate bridge, hockey, Nordic skiing, prediction skating, table tennis, volleyball, and crokinole.
The winning individuals and teams from each District are eligible to compete at Actifest and Winterfest.
