The Middlesex Table Tennis Club was born just over three years ago, but it’s still a hidden gem in the city for players looking for a top-notch facility to play table tennis – either recreationally or as part of a league.

What began as a two-nights-per-week club in 2005 at a French public school (Academie de La Tamise), has grown and evolved and now maintains a home of its own at 316 William St. in London. Now, table tennis is offered six days a week (closed on Saturdays), from 7-10pm on weeknights, and from 2-5pm on Sundays. The club currently boasts about 20 competitive members and 30 recreational members that drop in throughout the week and play on one of the club’s six top-notch tables. The club is open to all, and players can drop in to play for $10. Memberships run monthly, by three months, or annually. Check out the website (www.msttc.ca) for full membership details.

In the fall and again in the winter, the club has a league that plays on Wednesday nights. Meant for beginner and intermediate players, the fall league runs from September until the middle of December, and the winter league goes from January through to the end of March. Trophies are awarded to the top 3 players, as well as the most improved player of the league.

The Middlesex Table Tennis Club, which was founded by Daniel Tessier, also offers private training for players interested in improving their game. The cost is $25/hour. There are also group training sessions offered at different times throughout the year. There’s always someone to play at the club, and perhaps the best way to immerse yourself in the game is to join the Wednesday night league in the fall or winter. It’s just the right combination of fun and good competition against players of varying skill levels.
