London is one of 41 districts in the Ontario Senior Games Association (OSGA), which were originally initiated by the Older Adult Centres Association of Ontario (OACAO) in late 1982. In 1983, OACAO approached the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation for financial assistance to help develop the program and promote the activities throughout the various districts in Ontario with approximately 4,600 participants in 31 activities in 21 different communities.
This increased in 1984, as 8,300 people participated in 38 activities in 35 districts/communities.
In 2011, the Ontario Senior Games Association began branding their identity throughout Ontario and is now referred to as OSGA 55+.
London Senior Games (LSG) – District 30 is a totally volunteer association that was established in 1985. In the beginning, a representative from most of London’s Senior Centres sat on the board. Today, volunteers from across London meet the first Wednesday of each month, excluding July and August, working hard to administer LSG, and make possible the use of community facilities for promoting an active lifestyle for people aged 55 and up by procuring conveners to oversee a wide range of FUN games and activities.
Annually, LSG hosts a variety of summer and winter games. During the even years, LSG sends its gold qualifiers to the Ontario 55+ Summer Games. In the odd numbered years, participants can qualify for the Southwest Regional 55+ Games and the Ontario 55+ Winter Games.
These events are a great way to engage in the community, meet new people, and stay active!
