On Tuesday, April 1, your London Lightning were defeated and eliminated by their rivals, the Windsor Express. It was a tough pill to swallow. After all, your Lightning were the two-time, back-to-back defending NBL champions. Even still, after reviewing the 2013-2014 season, there are plenty of reasons to be proud.
Over the past six months, the London Lightning have been busy during their time off the court. They have visited more than 70 schools in the community, discussing the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as respecting others and working as a team. The team has supported more than 50 local charities through themed nights, 50/50 draws, and special promotions. On the court, the Lightning saw an attendance increase of over 40 per cent compared to last year and set the league’s single game attendance record four times during the year.
Of course, these off-court accomplishments never would have been possible without the support of the London community. The London Lightning are grateful for their charitable partners, media partners, corporate partners and, most importantly, their dedicated fans, for their continued support this season.
With the spring and summer fast approaching, the Lightning have now shifted their focus to a new opportunity for their fans to interact with the team. Starting in May, the London Lightning will be offering nightly basketball clinics for youth aged 7-19. Starting in August, the London Lightning will also be offering full-day basketball sessions. And, yes, these clinics and sessions will be taught and coached by the Lightning players themselves.
At these clinics, your Lightning will speak to the importance of hard work, discipline and dedication. Participants will also learn the importance of teamwork, because that is what the Lightning values most as an organization. From their management team to their volunteers, the London Lightning works as a team and believes in togetherness both on the court and in the community. They believe that TOGETHER: We are Lightning.
