Matthew Philip is a strong team player, serving as either Captain or Assistant Captain of his team. He has routinely volunteered at annual Chiefs events, such as tryouts, Chiefs Day, and the Chiefs Golf Classic. He has also volunteered with his team in fundraisers for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and, most memorably, the Prusty 4 Kids Charity Golf Tournament. Philip learned that volunteering is its own reward when Tie Domi told him stories about playing in the NHL and how he got there while Philip caddied for him (“It was awesome!” he recalls). Philip has also volunteered at Cancer fundraisers, school functions, and other hockey events. Philip says, “I volunteer because I like to help others, like people have helped me along my way. It has enriched my life by showing me how it feels good to help others.”
