After a preseason of uncertainty, Eager Beaver Baseball was able to close out a successful – although different – 67th season. A late June start, registration limited by coaches that volunteered upfront, and the first few weeks adhering to strict social distancing rules made for a unique season. But although the format differed from past years, players aged 4 to 13 (and 16 to 18) were able to take to the diamonds and see a little bit of ‘normal’ return the summer while developing their baseball skills.
The Little Slugger, TBall, Rookie, Mosquito, PeeWee and Midget divisions were able to hold mainly practice seasons, with limited games and scrimmages. Wesley Taylor enjoyed his first baseball experience with the Little Slugger program, and his dad, Patrick Taylor, was very impressed with the enthusiasm and effort put forth by the convenor, Lou DaSilva, and his group of helpers. Brayden Nancekivell was happy to get a year of Mosquito practices and scrimmages under his belt before he moves up to PeeWee next year.
EBBA plans to return next year to a full house league season of 18 games for the Rookie to Junior divisions and a 5-week Little Slugger and 9-week TBall program. Registration should open January 1 with outdoor practices starting the beginning of May. Of course, everything will depend on the Covid protocols at the time.
