Wonderful winter for local gymnasts

Beje Gymnastics Club consists of both competitive and recreational gymnasts who strive to improve their skills and have a lot of fun along the way!

Activities started early this year at Beje Gymnastics Club, as competitive athletes had their first competitions of the 2020 season at the beginning of February.

Artistic gymnastics was up first, as the girls competed in Milton at the ‘Bring on the Sun’ qualifier meet for all athletes in the Provincial stream from (Levels 6-10). Valentina DaCosta and Joelle Cheng, two Level 6 athletes, went out and fought the nerves of the competition.

“We started on Uneven Bars, and I was a little nervous.” Said Joelle. “But by Vault, the last event, I felt good and I was really happy to come in first place and win the gold medal.”

Said Coach Alana of the event: “It was a tough competition with lots of good girls out there, but I’m happy with our girls’ performance, especially with the gold on Vault. Now, we need to go back to work harder and be ready for the next meets the rest of the season.”

Tumbling athletes also had their second Ontario Cup competition in early February (Feb. 7-9) in Niagara, and they brought home two silver medals on the Men’s side, with Jacob Burns (Level 5 National stream) and Dominic Palin (Level 1 Provincial stream) achieving the feat.

“Being the youngest athlete in the competition, I had nothing to loss,” said Dominic. “So, I went there and did my best.”

Men’s artistic had their second Ontario Cup as well, but in Kitchener this time. As predicted, all Beje athletes did a wonderful job, and after achieving the qualifier scores for the Ontario Championships, they can now push for higher and harder difficulties at their upcoming meets.

January was the month for new beginnings, and it kicked off a 15-week Winter Session for the Recreational program at Beje Gymnastics, with plenty of activities, including: ‘I love Gymnastics week’; the ‘Bring a friend’ program, and in-house awards which showed the progress and improvements that the many gymnasts have made.

Registration for the Spring & Summer Session recreational program are now open, as well as for Summer Camps (and March Break, too!)
