You cheered Canada on to two Olympic gold medals last February, now it’s time for you to try curling this winter. The St. Thomas Curling Club has been located at 38 Parkside Drive since 1955 and includes six sheets of ice and a comfortable lounge area. Our members are proud of our curling club and the many Provincial Champions that have developed their skills in our facility. However, the majority of our new members have never tried the sport before.

St. Thomas 1The St. Thomas Curling Club offers a variety of ways to help you get started in the sport. Free instruction is available to all new members through our Curling 101 program. There is no need to purchase any equipment, as the Club provides everything you need to get started.

Our season begins in mid-October and continues through to the middle of April. We have leagues for every age and ability, and you can join as an individual, a couple, or as a team.

Come check us out at our OPEN HOUSE October 7-9 from 7-9p.m. Free on-ice instruction will be provided.

For more information, contact us at 519-631-1770, or check out our website: www.stthomascurlingclub.com.

London Curling Club

By Burt Dowsett

London 1From its roots in 1847, when curling stones were first thrown on the natural ice of the “Coves,” the London Curling Club continues to evolve. The first 16 “stones” were cast by a local foundry for $80, which was a lot of money for the original 47 members.

The club had several homes before moving to its current site on Lyle Street in 1914. That building burned down in 1922 and was rebuilt in 1929, with artificial ice installed.

Today, the six-sheet London Curling Club has almost 700 members. Membership figures fluctuate at most clubs, however, so it is always important to attract new curlers. The LCC pursues this goal with: weekly two-hour learn-to-curl sessions; a weekly league to ease new curlers  into competing in-game situations; an introduction to curling program for Grades 7 and 8 students; and scheduled nights when non-curlers can experience the sport under the guidance of the club’s 30 instructors.

Ingersoll Curling Club

By Craig Robinson

Ingersoll 1The Ingersoll District Curling Club has been a fixture in the town of Ingersoll for over five decades. Originally founded as part of the Ingersoll Curling and Skating Club in 1894, the club became a separate organization in 1961, moving to its current location on Chisholm Drive. The Club has undergone many changes since then, but some things have never changed: great people having a great time playing a great game!

The Club offers leagues ranging from competitive to recreational, men’s, women’s, mixed, and juniors, and also regularly entertains people wishing to rent the facility to give curling a try or for corporate functions. Everyone is always welcome at the IDCC. And now, the IDCC will welcome the province, as it will serve as the host club for the 2015 Men’s Provincial Championship from February 2-8, 2015. Give curling a try, CURLING ROCKS!

Highland Country Club is hidden away…right in the heart of the city

Highland 1Highland Country Club is a fully integrated curling and golf facility that is hidden away … right in the heart of London. Curling members have access to all of the amenities available at the Club, including full dining in comfortable surroundings for members and their guests to enjoy.

We have a six-sheet curling rink, which opened in 1959. We pride ourselves on having the best ice and the top ice-making team in Canada. Our clubhouse underwent major renovations in 2011-2012, and Highland Country Club has become the premier curling club in Southwestern Ontario.

Our Club has a reputation for producing competitive curlers and hosting quality bonspiels and events. At the same time, we have several leagues that are geared to the more social curler, including a “Get Started League” for those looking to learn the great game of curling.

Sign-up for the 2014-2015 season on Oct. 1 at 6:30pm (Highland Country Club, 1922 Highland Heights, London, Ont.)
