It was a huge year for Londoner Damian Warner in 2019. Having returned to his hometown after two years in Calgary, Damian had a lot to prove. And he did so in spectacular style, winning the first big meet of the year in Gotzis, Austria for a record-tying fifth time. Damian’s final score of 8,711 points held up as the top score in decathlon in the world for the 2019 season.
In August, Damian flew down to Peru and captured the gold medal in the decathlon at the Pan Am Games. In doing so, he became the first male athlete to successfully defend a Pan Am Games championship in the decathlon, as he backed up his win in 2015.
After an unfortunate ankle injury hobbled him, Damian still managed to win a bronze medal at the World Championships in Doha on Oct 2-3. In doing so, Warner became the first Canadian track and field athlete to EVER win a medal at three different World Championships in a single event! Damian also won the IAAF Combined Events Championship for 2019, with the highest score ever recorded in the event.

Damian got October off, and then he begins training for the Olympics in Tokyo next summer. Damian has been very fortunate to receive the help and financial support of many Londoners, but traveling to warm weather locations to train is very expensive and he needs even more help if he is to win gold in Tokyo.
