It was the event of the summer in Ontario, and London native Damian Warner achieved one of the most impressive performances of all. At the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, the 25-year-old Warner set a Canadian record in the decathlon, breaking Michael Smith’s 19-year-old mark. With a time of 4:24.73 in the 1500 metres, the final event of the competition, Warner finished with a record 8,659 points and the gold medal.

Back home, many welcomed Warner back to celebrate his impressive accomplishment. More than 125 people attended a post-Pan Am party on July 29 at the north London home of Jeff and Dr. Lisa Fischer, Warner’s business partner and sport medicine physician, respectively.

Special guests included many in London’s sports community, including Lightning owner Vito Frijia, FC owner Ian Campbell, numerous Western University coaches and staff, and many of Warner’s sponsors. Also in attendance were city representatives, including Mayor Matt Brown.

Jeff read a heart-felt congratulatory message from Michael Smith, the former Canadian decathlon record holder. Smith congratulated Damian and give him some encouraging words for the future. As well, Fischer announced that the Conacher family, one of the greatest names in Canadian sports history, had joined Team Warner as a sponsor.

The celebration included Damian presenting Mayor Brown with an autographed racing singlet, while Fischer presented Damian with the first of the limited edition Kish paintings on metal, which was to be given to Damian’s mother.
