Waiting to Play Ball!

LMBL action at historic Labatt Park. The league is hopeful to play this summer, but the focus first is on the health and safety of everyone during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is no joy in Mudville. You may remember the famous poem ‘Casey at the Bat.’ The poem is about the hope of getting the team’s star player, Casey, to bat when the team is down two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Casey eventually got his at-bat – and struck out. We are hoping that is not the fate of our 2020 LMBL season. We continue to hold out hope that we will get a chance to bat this season, let alone in the bottom of the last inning with the game on the line.

With that said, we are all on a National and Global team of a different sort, combating Covid-19. We will put our bats, baseballs and gloves away for the time being until we know that our loved ones, teammates and complete strangers are safe from harm.

The LMBL will be following Baseball Ontario recommendations, along with
that of our federal and provincial health officials, on how to proceed with our
2020 season – if it is to be.

We would also like to give a big tip of the cap and thank you to all frontline
workers, essential workers and healthcare providers, along with all those staying home and doing their part to flatten the curve.

From our scorekeepers, umpires, managers, players and our entire LMBL
family, please practice social distancing, stay safe and healthy. Once we get back in action, perhaps social distancing will help our game by making those leadoffs from first base just a little bit bigger!

There will eventually be joy back in Mudville, and we hope to see you on the
field when it happens!
