Lacrosse, an ancient aboriginal game, has been played for longer than there have been written records. Today, it is Canada’s National Summer Sport and is the only game currently played in the world that is spiritual in nature. It has been said that many players feel the ‘magic’ of this sport the first time they pick up a stick (aka ‘crosse’).
The London Minor Lacrosse Association has been making lacrosse available to the London community for nearly 50 years, and there are many ways to try lacrosse in the forest city, including:
London ‘Jr. Stangs Field Lacrosse
Field lacrosse is an outdoor sport, played 9-on-9, on a grass or turf field. The spring season runs in April and May. Fall field lacrosse is also gaining popularity across Ontario. In London, the ‘Jr Stangs play at City Wide fields.
London Blue Devils Competitive Box
Box lacrosse is played indoors on an arena floor. LMLA competitive programs continue to expand, with the potential of two boys teams in many age groups for 2014. Our girls box teams are also looking forward to continued success next season! Box lacrosse begins with March tryouts and culminates at the Ontario Lacrosse Association’s provincial championships in early August.
House League Lacrosse
For those new to lacrosse, or for those who prefer less travel, LMLA offers an amazing house league program! One of the largest in Ontario, our 2013 house league program registered over 480 players ranging in age from 3 to 21. Both boys and girls are welcome! Our youngest players receive their very first lacrosse stick included in their registration. If they feel that special ‘magic’, it won’t be their last!
Junior B Blue Devils
Our Junior B’s expect to have another strong team this year. Once again, they are hosting a Winter Skills Camp for kids of all ages. Keep an eye on www.bluedevilslacrosse.com for more information.
Try Lacrosse Winter Clinics
Still not convinced? Register for one or more of our winter clinics to see for yourself! It’s just $10 a session, which includes a coupon that can be applied toward registration. Clinics are a great way for boys and girls of all ages to try the sport at a minimal cost.
