The Junction is proud to celebrate the achievements of its Junior Climbing Team. Starting in October of 2014 with just four members, we’ve tripled in size and traveled the province, competing in Toronto, Burlington, and Kitchener, in addition to hosting climbers from across Ontario at our own competitions here in London.

Competition climbing sees climbers attempting various routes, with harder climbs being worth more points. There are two major disciplines: bouldering, which features powerful, athletic moves on short climbs, and difficulty,
which features long stretches of climbing, often overhung, with the climber on a rope to protect against a fall.

Unique among sports is that much of the training occurs with all team members climbing together, regardless of age. This builds a strong sense of mentorship within the team. The team also trains alongside members of the regular climbing community, and gets to enjoy the sense of being part of the larger climbing community. Team members get memberships to the Junction Climbing Centre so they can come to climb when they like. Team practices focus extensively on technique and strength training.

Congratulations to all of our team members! You’ve made us proud with how you’ve embraced this sport and supported each other. We’ve watched you grow as athletes and seen you become stronger climbers. We look forward to seeing great things from all of you in the years to come!
