The London Silver Dolphins swim club begins its 35th season this fall, with September 10 the official start date.  The final swim of our 2018-2019 season will be June 28.

Last season we had 90 members, ranging in age from 18 to 88. We swim at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre on Wonderland Road from September until late May. We then move to the 50-metre Thames pool for our brief outdoor season.

Our swimmers have varying goals. Some are competitive swimmers who train hard for medals at swim meets.  They represent about 15 percent of our team. Some are triathletes, perfecting their front crawl and profiting from coaching tips. Some join our team because their children swim for the London Aquatic Club (LAC). Others swim for fitness, while also improving their stroke, stamina and speed in the pool.

Our competitive focus every year is the Provincial Championships, held in March. After that competition, we reduce pool time from five swim options each week to three. At the 2018 Provincials, the Silver Dolphins placed 11th of 44 teams, and many individual medals were won.

Coach Vince, with help from Jenna, keeps our workouts challenging and fun. Besides pool time, our members enjoy an end-of-the-month pub nite at Crabby Joe’s and a mid-month Sunday brunch at The Early Riser cafe. Other social events include a Christmas bowling party and a summer Awards celebration. Participation and friendship are team priorities. Please check out our website and consider swimming with the Dolphins!
