The London Aquatic Club hosted the Western Ontario Championships at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre from January 31 to February 3, and the meet was a resounding success – both from a hosting and performance standpoint.

A total of 850 swimmers competed, representing 22 clubs from across southwestern Ontario, and when the water settled LAC’s 92 swimmers won the overall team title in convincing fashion – for the eighth consecutive year.

London swimmers established over 400 personal bests at the meet, and 48 LAC athletes produced a Mac Truck-sized total of 158 medals in individual events, including 64 gold medals. Another 23 swimmers finished in the top 8 in at least one individual event, and the Club’s relay teams finished in the top 3 in 14 out of 16 possible events.

Two weeks later, LAC also put up a good performance at the Provincial Festival Championships (ages 13 and under) in Etobicoke Feb. 16-17, finishing 9th overall with their 22 competing swimmers. Meanwhile, the Club also raced at both the Ontario Senior and Youth/Junior Championships.
