Andrew Martin, who graduated with honours from Grade 12 and was an Ontario Scholar, is now attending Kings College in London and competing with the varsity track and field team. As a high schooler, Andrew won three OFSAA gold medals to go along with a silver. Last year, he won a gold medal at the All-Canadian track and field championships in Edmonton and then advanced to the Jr. Pan Am Games in August.

Outside of track and field, Andrew has played AAA hockey and played Jr. B hockey for two years before choosing to focus on track and field and his studies at Kings College. He hopes to work as a Child Life Specialist when he graduates after his four years. It’s right up his alley, as Andrew has volunteered his time with a young boy with autism in addition to volunteering year-round as a hockey camp instructor, as well as at track and field events.

In January, 2015, Andrew was chosen to attend the T.O. Youth Summit with other teens from all across Canada.

He is a very mature young man who has a warm and caring personality, and he focused and driven on succeeding and giving back to the community.

Each edition of SportsXpress, a young athlete is awarded with an Education Scholarship of $500. The award is based on an understanding contribution to their team and the community. Email London@SportsXpress.ca for more information or to nominate a young athlete.
