Participation is growing in the Woodstock Soccer Club, and this summer more than 900 kids are on the pitch playing ‘the beautiful game.’ The 2016 outdoor season features 80 youth teams and more than 100 coaches and assistants. Meanwhile, there are also 30 Adult recreational teams playing in Woodstock, and the Club expects to have 100 teams in next year’s 2016-17 indoor season. Interest is high!
The objective of the Woodstock Soccer Club is to promote, develop and provide opportunity for anyone in the city (and surrounding area) to play organized soccer at the recreational and competitive level, and to help all participants reach their potential – whether as players, coaches, referees or administrators. The Club recently introduced online registration and a club-wide Uniform Pick-up Day, which has certainly helped to accommodate people’s busy lives.
There are a number of offerings within the Woodstock Soccer Club, including a year-round Recreational program and a Youth and Adult Indoor and Outdoor House League, as well as an Under 2/3 Development Program. During the outdoor season, the Club has 16 boys and girls competitive teams, ranging from Under 8 to Under 17. Cowan Park is the home of the Woodstock Soccer Club.
The Adult Competitive Program is also strong, with six teams (the Woodstock Stallions and the Woodstock Strikers) currently competing – a men’s Masters team (35+) in the MMSL League, three men’s teams in the WOSL (District 1st, 2nd and 4th Division), and two women’s teams (3rd and 4th Division) in the LAWSL District.
There are a couple of special days during the summer for the Club, and one of them this year was the 24th Annual Walter Kirchner Festival/Tournament, which welcomed 90 teams from around Southwestern Ontario to Cowan Park. Championship Day is another highlight of the year in mid-August, as the outdoor season wraps up with semi-final and final games, as well as awards and a BBQ!
Crabby Joes is a proud sponsor of the growing Woodstock Soccer Club, and this year is thrilled to sponsor both a Youth team and an Adult team.
