As one season ends, another begins. Such is definitely the case for the Eager Beaver Baseball Association (EBBA). The city of London’s longest-running volunteer youth sports league wrapped up its season not too long ago with the annual Coaches/Volunteer Appreciation Night. Coaches, board members and volunteers mingled while re-living the season’s highlights. The Gordon Berryhill Volunteer Award, named in honour of one of EBBA’s founders, was presented to Laurel Ann Belki for her years of dedication as a board member, league secretary and convener of the older divisions.

Among this year’s season highlights: The Little Slugger and T-ball programs were filled to capacity with over 200 players aged 4 to 7 being introduced to the basic skills of baseball; The six Rookie teams played all their games at Mornington Park, and the Pirates won both the division and the playoffs; The five Mosquito teams played interleague with the Yankees and Crusaders, finishing the season in second and third place, respectively, and the Yankees coming in second in the playoffs; The PeeWee Athletics placed third for the season and second in the playoffs; The Bantam Cardinals won the division and the playoffs; The Midget Kings placed second for the season and fourth in the playoffs; And the Junior team won their division and placed second in the playoffs behind Lucan.

Only two weeks later, the Annual General Meeting was held to elect the board members for the 2017 season and to fill the volunteer positions. Plans are already underway to make the upcoming season even more successful than the last. However, there is still a need for more volunteers with the time, energy and desire to make their child’s league the best possible. Please contact EBBA to join the team!

Registration will begin in January. Please visit www.ebba.ca for more information.
