It was an impressive showing for Middlesex Swimming at the Western Region Championships, as the club won 14 medals and set 28 new team records at the Windsor International Aquatic Training Centre the weekend of Feb. 6-8.

With 30 teams and more than 1,000 swimmers from across Southwestern Ontario competing, Middlesex Swimmers won three gold medals, four silver medals, and seven bronze, while achieving 63 top-8 finishes.

Twelve-year-old Lucy Finkelstein shined in the pool, capturing four medals (two silver, two bronze) while setting an impressive seven club records. Cameron Teasdale, 13, also set seven club records while earning five medals (two gold, one silver, two bronze).

Bronwyn MacLeod, another of Middlesex Swimming’s 40 competitors at the meet, set four new club records, including two in team events: the 4 x 50m freestyle relay, and the 4 x 50m medley relay.

Congratulations are in order for both Finkelstein and McKay Phillips, who became first-time Ontario Age Group Championship qualifiers.

Middlesex Swimming was also busy in late February, as the club traveled to Toronto for the provincial championships for 13-and-under swimmers on Feb. 21-22, and also trekked to Brantford for the 14-and-over championships from Feb. 26 to March 1. Stay tuned for further meet results!
