Bowling at every level has long been associated with fun as well as some underlying component of competition. Why? Because even though you may be bowling as a group or a team, individual scores really, really matter! Ask any teammates – father vs. son, friend vs. friend.

We are pleased to be hosting the first Provincial Bakers Team Format in London at Bowlerama Royale during both weekends of the 2018 March Break. This format is exceptionally fun, fast and exciting because bowlers cheer each other on during every frame, knowing that each frame is an integral part of the overall outcome! It’s truly a team event.

Consisting of five players, this team format allows the lead-off bowler to bowl the first frame and sixth frame, the second bowler to bowl the second and seventh frame, and so on down to the anchor bowler who bowls the fifth frame and possible bonus tenth frame. The composite score is determined by how well each bowler scores in their two frames.

Having tested this format with our Youth League last year in their season finale, we found these benefits: growth in team spirit, mentorship, enthusiasm, and involvement and commitment to each player’s critical role in the game. Of course, wherever there is a bowling competition at Bowlerama, there is a chance for scholarship dollars. And this year’s tournament guarantees a $3,000 prize fund.

The Bakers Team Format was borrowed from our friends across the border who hold regular collegiate events throughout the country. North of the border, Georgian College in Barrie, Ont. has adopted the first Canadian collegiate bowling program competing weekly with our American friends. Kudos to Team Spirit!
