National success and provincial pride

These are exciting times for the Forest City Diving Club, who had 11 top-12 finishes at the Speedo Jr. Elite Nationals and will host (and be represented by more than 10 athletes of their own) the 2018 Ontario Summer Games in London in August

This summer, London is hosting the 2018 Ontario Summer Games (August 3-5), and the city is welcoming more than 3,500 top young athletes in 21 different sports. FCDC is thrilled that our home pool is serving as a venue for the Games. And with stellar performances during the season, FCDC has more than 10 athletes who met the standard to compete in the Games – especially impressive given there are only 74 invites.

In competition in June, seven FCDC divers traveled to Winnipeg, MB to compete at the Speedo Jr. Elite Nationals, including Jaime Dutz, Anika Holland, Faith Zacharias, Camryn Hughes, Joshua Inglis, Nathan Marshall, Julia Parybak and Katelyn Fung. They came home with 11 top-12 finishes, and their hard work (and the hard work of their coaches, Yun Hu and Luda Zakharenko) paid off as FCDC finished 3rd in Canada. In July, our youngest group (11 and under) is competing in their own Speedo Jr. Development Nationals in Toronto.

Many of our divers receive university scholarships to the U.S. Next September, Anika Holland will move on to Louisville, Kentucky on a diving scholarship to compete in the NCAA Division I. We wish her all the best!

We had 12 Aspire Divers participate in the Aspire Provincial Championships in Windsor. For some of them, it was their first time competing at such a large venue. They had very good standings and all enjoyed a great experience.

Our regular ‘Learn to Dive’ schedule resumes in September. FCDC offers a standardized program called PLOUF for children aged 5 and up (must be comfortable in deep water). PLOUF consists of six skill levels. Progressing to the next level is dependent on having mastered a set of given tasks.

Are you an adult who wants to try the sport of diving? We offer adult classes on Friday evenings. With a convenient 10-pass, you can come any Friday that you’re available!

Can’t wait until September? Sign your child up for summer camp where they will receive twice-a-day instruction! Have an athlete from gymnastics, dance, figure skating or martial arts who wants to try a new sport? These disciplines may already have the requirements for a competitive diver. Send us an email to inquire: forestcitydivingclub@gmail.com.
