London’s first Defeat Depression campaign is underway, and the first annual ‘Walk and Talk’ for Mental Health is set for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at Victoria Park (10:00am). ‘Move for mental health’ is the slogan of the Defeat Depression campaign, which is a national mental health awareness, anti-stigma and fundraising campaign that encourages people to get moving and reap the benefits of exercise.
Depression is a common illness. It’s estimated that at least 1 in 5 Canadians is suffering from depression or another mood disorder at any given time. And depression strikes all socioeconomic, educational, and cultural backgrounds. One way to combat the illness is through physical activity, which has widely-known positive benefits for one’s mental health and wellbeing.
Interested in participating in London’s first ‘Walk and Talk’ for Mental Health? Register online (mdsc.akaraisin.com/LondonDD2015) and come out and join the movement on Feb. 28. The day will include a walk, a post-walk get-together downtown (indoors!) with a guest speaker, fun, food and a fundraising raffle/draw. If you’re interested, you can collect some sponsors prior to the event and help support the cause!
The proceeds from London’s first Defeat Depression campaign are going to two valuable local mental health organizations – the London and District Distress Centre and CONNECT for Mental Health.
See you on Feb. 28!
