Since 1958, the best young football players in London have had one goal in mind when pre-season camp opens in August: they want to be on the field in November for LMFA championship day with a chance to win the now-55-year-old trophy and make memories that will last a lifetime.

LMFA Championship Day 2013 saw three champions crowned and countless memories made on a perfect fall day for football. In the tyke (ages 7-9) division, the South London Wolverines defeated the Southwest London Rams, 34-14. In the atom (ages 10-11) division, it was another win for the Wolverines, 22-14, over the St. Thomas Hawks. The peewee (ages 12-13) final saw the Rams defeat the Hawks, 34-6. The peewee Rams repeated as champions, while both Wolverines teams won their first championships ever.

It was another great year for the LMFA, as over 700 players learned about sportsmanship and teamwork, and were taught the skills that will help them as they graduate the LMFA into high school football.

London Minor Football was also privileged to host the 2013 Friendship Bowl games this year against teams from the Windsor Minor Football Association. After the weather caused a postponement, the games were played at TD Stadium on a chilly December day. Yes, you can play football outdoors in Canada in December!

Team London was chosen by the LMFA coaches and worked together quickly to become a team. Seeing players from all over the London and St. Thomas area come together as a team made all the extra effort worthwhile for the coaches and parents. Team Windsor prevailed in all three Friendship Bowl games, meaning that Team London has extra incentive for next year’s games in Windsor.
