The London Aquatic Club saw 155 swimmers race at the Western Ontario Regional Championship meets in June, and 30 swimmers compete at the Provincial Championship meets in June and July. In late July and early August, 10 swimmers will compete at the age group and senior national championship events in Quebec, while three LAC’ers will proudly wear the Maple Leaf this summer as part of Canada’s national swim team.
Three-time Paralympian Adam Purdy will compete at the IPC World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland in late July, then will be joined by new LAC teammate Devin Gotell at the Parapan Am Games in Toronto in mid-August. Fifteen-year-old Maggie MacNeil, meanwhile, will represent Canada for the second time in 2015 when she travels to Singapore in August as part of Canada’s 19-member World Junior Championship team. MacNeil competed for Canada in Australia in April at their national age group championships, where she collected a silver medal in the 15-year-old girls 100m butterfly event.
Whether your child loves racing internationally, or racing across the backyard pool, LAC provides opportunities for everyone to try the great sport of swimming, and endeavours to make the initial experience as enjoyable and welcoming as possible, as evidenced by these recent comments from a parent:
“Many thanks again for the invitation. My daughter had fun, and I have to commend you and your staff on the positive atmosphere created for the athletes. It’s refreshing to see youth sports focused on fun, development and engagement, and to see smiles on the faces of the athletes. Thank you also for taking the time to work with my daughter to ensure that she is placed in the right group and to help me, as a parent, understand the process. Coming to a new sport culture that I have not experienced in the past is oftentimes challenging, but you made it seamless. Thank you!”
