The 2015-16 swimming year is underway, and the London Aquatic Club has its sights set on some exciting opportunities in this Olympic and Paralympic year. The club recently held its awards banquet, where the many outstanding accomplishments of LAC swimmers in 2014-15 were celebrated, including our most improved swimmers, club champions, club record-setters, nationally-ranked swimmers, our three swimmers who represented Canada, and the Megan Holliday Spirit Award winner, which was presented to Aitana Robinson, who is now in her first year on scholarship at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. Megan Holliday was an LAC’er who swam to two bronze medals for Canada at the 1987 Pan-American Games, and the Holliday family, through the London Community Foundation, honours Megan’s memory by annually supporting the one swimmer who most embodies her beautiful spirit.
The club’s 20 coaches oversee training programs for approximately 250 swimmers at four different city pools, the Canada Games Aquatic Centre being the primary training site.
There are nine different training groups within the club, starting with our youngest and least experienced swimmers in the Development groups swimming three times per week, through our Age Group programs for swimmers between the ages of 9-14, while our Senior programs (Bronze, Silver and Gold) offer more training (up to nine times weekly) and competition opportunities for our high school-aged swimmers. In 2015-16 the club will be represented at no less than 30 competitions across the region, province and country. The LAC also plays host to six competitions annually, drawing hundreds of swimmers and parents from across Ontario to the Forest City.
The club offers opportunities for all swimmers to be the best that they can be, in a positive, caring, safe environment. Anyone who thinks they might like to try our great sport is welcome to a free, no obligation two-week trial.
