The Middlesex Swimming Club fared well at the Western Regional Championships in February, which was held in their own backyard at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre in London. The event, a qualifier for the provincial championships, welcomed more than 600 athletes from 28 teams across Southwestern Ontario.

Thirty-three of those competitors were Middlesex Swimming athletes, and together they captured 20 medals overall, including seven gold medals, eight silver, and five bronze.

On the girls side, the Club was led by 14-year-old Alexis Harback, who earned three medals at the meet, including a gold in the 50m Freestyle event, a silver in 100m Freestyle, and a bronze in the 200m Individual Medley event.

Meanwhile, Bronwyn MacLeod, 15, took home a gold and a silver medal, while Kathryn Ivanov, 14, also earned one of the girls’ three gold medals at the meet. Julia Geurten (12), Marissa Mann (17 and over), and Sheila Treleaven (17 and over) each swam to silver medals.

On the boys side, Quinn Nolan, 16, earned plenty of hardware, including a gold, a silver, and three bronze medals at the regional event. Ethan Jantzi (15) won both the 50m and 200m Breaststroke events in his age category, while Hayden Aziz (16) earned one gold and one silver medal, Cameron Teasdale (16) won a silver and a bronze, and Declan Nolan (10) came away with a bronze medal of his own.

The Middlesex Swimming crew has a busy March schedule, with the Ontario Spring Provincial Championships March 1-4 in Etobicoke, and the Ontario AA Spring Championships March 8-11 in Markham. On the Water Polo side, the Club will compete in the March Madness Tournament in Etobicoke from March 23-25.
