Celebrating 40 years

The Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic is proud to be celebrating 40 years of returning active citizens to their active lives. Established in 1974 (then called the Athletic Injuries Clinic), we have been shaping the future of sport medicine ever since as leaders in injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, research, education and advocacy.

What is a Concussion?

A concussion is an injury that changes how the cells in the brain normally work. A concussion is caused by a blow to the head or body that causes the brain to move rapidly inside the skull. Even a “ding”, or what seems to be a mild blow to the head can be serious. Concussions can also result from a fall or from players colliding with each other or with obstacles, such as a goal post.

Concussion Rehabilitation

Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine offers a multi-disciplinary approach to managing sport concussions in the active and athletic population. Medical professionals work together to assess, treat, and rehabilitate the various facets of the injury. The program emphasizes early intervention, which can lessen symptoms and promote recovery, leading to a better rehabilitation outcome.

If you have sustained a concussion while playing a sport, call 519-661-2111 and select option #2 to book an assessment with Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine staff.
