Flag football a successful audible

Mason Leatherdale and Jacob Chilvers

It’s been a challenging year – in so many ways, for so many people. We have worked hard behind the scenes this year to get our football family back on the field at Citywide Park on Sundays. By following the regulations set out by the provincial government and Football Canada, we created a new flag football experience to help players get back to some sense of normalcy.

In August, teams across the London and St. Thomas area took the field for a two-week skills camp focused on fundamental football skills and getting players back into conditioning. Teams then formed for 5-on-5 flag football games so that players could have fun while following the regulations necessary during the COVID-19 outbreak.

This new format, while not ideal, allows players to socialize with other players in their area and compete and have fun outdoors. Having only 10 players on the field allows lots of space for everyone and makes sure that every player gets a chance to carry the ball or catch a pass.

Information on our Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 age divisions can be found on our website. We will also post details for any winter skills camps that are allowed in 2021. Please visit www.lmfafootball.ca or call 519-852-4465 for more information.
